The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has officially announced plans to construct a new global headquarters, marking a symbolic new chapter for the party following the demolition of its former base.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for October 18, 2025, with completion expected within six months. The new edifice will rise in Congo Town, near the Greater Refuge Church, according to Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, Chairman of the CDC Global Headquarters Construction Committee.

“The new space may not be as expansive as our previous headquarters, but it is strategic, accessible, and will serve the party well,” Cllr. Koffa stated during a Monday press briefing.
A Modern Four-Level Design
Cllr. Koffa revealed that the proposed US$1.5 million headquarters will feature four levels designed to accommodate both administrative and political functions:
- Basement: Venue for internal political activities and gatherings.
- First Floor: A modern conference hall for meetings and press engagements.
- Second Floor: Executive offices for operational management.
- Third Floor: Standard Bearer’s Office and additional conference spaces.
Construction will be undertaken by AMHD, an international firm with operational presence in Liberia, Ghana, Lebanon, and Dubai, working alongside local contractors to ensure community participation and skills transfer.
Broad-Based Financial Support
According to Koffa, the project’s funding comes from a diverse pool of contributors, reflecting unity across Liberia’s political spectrum:
- 52% from CDC partisans
- 18% from members of the ruling Unity Party
- 10% from other opposition parties
- 10% from independent citizens
- 10% from anonymous donors
“This level of support marks a new beginning for the CDC. Despite challenges, our supporters at home and abroad remain deeply committed to the party’s future,” Koffa emphasized.
Nationwide Expansion Plans
Koffa further disclosed that the CDC’s long-term vision includes establishing local headquarters in all 15 counties of Liberia. Land has already been secured in Barclayville, Grand Kru County, with a sub-office planned for Sass Town.
Thanksgiving Service to Mark the New Chapter
To commemorate this milestone, the CDC has scheduled a Thanksgiving Service for October 19, 2025, at the Forky Klon Jlaleh Church in the Baptist Seminary community.
“CDC is a party born out of struggle,” Koffa reflected. “With God’s help, we will continue to stand firm and resilient, even in the face of adversity.”
He also confirmed that the land for the new headquarters is fully owned by the CDC, ensuring complete party control over the property.
The new development signals the CDC’s intent to modernize its operations, strengthen internal unity, and reassert its political relevance as it positions for the years ahead.
