The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has named Mustapha I. Raji, President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), as Deputy Chairman of the FIFA Olympic Football Committee for the 2025–2029 term. This is a big sign of Liberia’s growing power in global football governance.
After a lot of discussions with member associations and continental confederations, the FIFA Council meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, officially approved the appointment. The process is part of FIFA’s new structure for its Standing Committees, which is meant to improve participation, inclusiveness, and technical knowledge in the management of football around the world.

A Vote of Trust in African Football Leaders
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that the new hires were important for making the organization more open and diverse.
Infantino said, “The new Standing Committees will make it easier for our Member Associations, confederations, and other stakeholders to be involved in our decision-making processes. This will make sure that there are more women involved and that we have specialized technical knowledge in all important areas of football.”
Raji’s promotion is one of the highest honors yet for a Liberian football administrator in FIFA’s hierarchy. It shows how he has steadily become a trusted voice in international sports governance.
Pride in Liberia and Africa as a whole
The Liberia Football Association called the appointment “a milestone achievement” for both Liberia and the African football community in a statement released soon after the news broke.
The LFA said, “We are proud to congratulate President Raji on this historic honor.” “His appointment shows that Liberia is becoming more important in world football and shows how committed we all are to honesty, growth, and progress in the game.”
Making Olympic Football Better in the Future
Raji will work closely with the Committee as Deputy Chairman to oversee and shape policies related to football tournaments at the Olympic Games. These tournaments are an important way to find and develop new football talent around the world. His job is to make sure that Africa is better represented in the administration of Olympic football and that the continent’s priorities are well represented in future international competitions.
This appointment not only makes Raji one of the most powerful football leaders in Africa, but it also marks the start of a new era for Liberia in shaping the sport’s global future.
